This or That – Book Lover Edition

I’m an indecisive Libra so this post has been torture! Nevertheless, I aways enjoy doing these posts on Instagram and Twitter so I thought I’d bring them over to my blog and make a little series out them. I apologise in advance, I’m not very good at this game and I kept picking both answers! Whoops! Let me know in the comments if you agree/disagree with any of my choices!

I’ve always been a paperback girl, but recently I’ve been converted and have splurged on a couple of gorgeous hardbacks! There was no way that I was going to wait for some of these new books to be released in in paperback form, but one of my biggest pet peeves is mismatched series so it looks like I might have to treat myself (again)! And at this rate it look like I’m also going to have to invest in another shelf because it’s overflowing and I’m double stacking!

During Covid I’ve spent far too much time scrolling through Amazon and the Waterstones website but NOTHING beats wandering around a bookshop! I mentioned in my wrap up post that I’ve got a trip to Hay-on-Wye planned and I’m so excited to spend an afternoon wandering around the endless and overflowing shelves of some of my favourite independent bookstores.

100% Series! It’s very easy for me to become invested in a fictional world and with fictional characters, so the more time I get to spend with them the better! Although we have to wait years to continue the adventure, the wait is always worth it!

I’ve recently been loving sci-fi adventures, but my heart will always belong to fantasy. Give me a book packed full of magic, sword fights and fantastical world building any day and the chances are that I’ll love it! A lot of these fantasy worlds are my second home and perfect escape from reality.

I’ve tried audiobooks before but I find it difficult to focus on them and I tend to just ‘zone out’, which is my own fault as I’m constantly thinking about different things and to-do lists! It’s definitely something I want to try again, and I think I just need to find a good audiobook that keeps me hooked, so any recommendations would be wonderful!

I love my little reading nook but there’s just something so serene about sitting in the sunshine and reading! I’d give anything right now to be sitting on a hot beach or by the poolside with stack of books from my TBR.

I’m an early riser so I try and start my day off with a little bit of reading, even if it’s only a chapter, and it’s the perfect way to start the day. That being said, I do enjoy curling up and getting cosy in my reading nook in the evening, but one thing I can’t do is read in bed at night, as soon as I jump into bed I’ll fall fast asleep. It’s clear that I’m terrible at this game!

I go through reading phases, one week I’m binge reading my new favourite fantasy series and the next I’m slowing making my way through another book on my TBR! If I had to choose then I’d pick binge read as I tend to fall head over heels for the most of the books I read, and I can’t get enough of them!

Both! I’m an emotional wreck and tend to cry at everything (even the happy moments)! One of my favourite reading moments is when you’re crying over a book and a character drops an unexpected and witty line that has you laughing through the tears.

I take great pride in my reading playlist and I’m currently in the process of making themed and locations aesthetic playlists! Listening to music helps enhance my imagination and turns some of my favourite scenes into mini-movies in my head. Different albums and playlists can transport me to different worlds and creates the perfect reading mood, even now there are specific songs I associate with books and when I hear them I get a little flashback!

Is it bad that I want to pick the villain? I’ve just finished reading Shadow and Bone, and all this Darkling content we’re going to be getting later this month is pushing me towards the dark side…How could you say no to Ben Barnes! But what I really love is a morally grey character. They aren’t quite villains, but they are too twisted to be traditional heroes, they’re relatable because no one if perfect and have great potential for character development.

I’ve always been a reader driven by plot but after reading A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas I think I’m leaning more towards character! Character development is so important for me, and Nesta’s journey of delicate and powerful determination and acceptance is hands down one of my favourites! But at the same give me an action-packed and intense plot that keeps me on the edge of my seat!
