Anna and the French Kiss – Stephanie Perkins

I might have just fallen in love. This book is adorable and such a feel-good read which I loved!! I can’t believe it has taken me so long to read this book; I feel ashamed!!

The story follows Anna, a young adult in her senior year of high school but not any high school – a high school in Paris, France (jealous or what?!). From there we follow her senior year however it’s not that simple. Here she meets a beautiful boy named Etienne St Clair, he has it all including a serious girlfriend. But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?

This book had everything you would want in a contemporary book, it was cute, cheesy (but the right amount of cheese) and funny. I really loved the character, Anna, as she was adorable and well flawed who I would happily sit and watch films with all day!! I was also able to relate a lot to her and her love for cinema as I myself, am a huge film buff and I too would love to be a film critic!! Her love for film and St Clair’s passion for history, I thought made the characters more memorable and unique!

I need a St Clair in my life right now! He again was perfect as he was kind, cute and very romantic which I loved!! His relationship with Anna is what every girl dreams of as we can see that he really does love her! Oh, it’s so cute!! Their relationship and conversation between the two were also funny with the use of sarcasm and irony; I loved their sense of humor.

The development of their relationship was also realistic and well written as it wasn’t a love at first sight relationship. In this case, they truly became friends before anything else, spending a lot of time talking to each other and getting to know each other better. It was well paced and something I really enjoyed reading!

Again the rest of the characters were fab and a group of people I would love to spend time with. I also noticed the character Isla being mentioned a few times and I’m guessing she is the protagonist in the novel “Isla and the Happily Ever After” so I was pleased to get an insight into her character.

Overall I happily rate this book 5/5 stars as it is such a cute and fluffy book which guaranteed will put you in a good mood after reading. It again is quite an easy read and is also a perfect contemporary for summer!!! I now need to read ‘Lola and the boy Next door’ ASAP!!!
