Series I Want to Start in 2021

I know I shouldn’t be adding anymore books to my TBR, but this style of post is really helpful to look back on throughout the year especially when I’m stuck on which book to pick up next. These are just some of the series that I’ve been dying to start and I hopefully 2021 will finally be the year I dive into them!

The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman

It’s official, I’m am completely and utterly in love with Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff and I need more! I saw these books in a bookshop in Oxford a couple of months ago for only a couple of pounds and I stupidly didn’t buy them! But not to worry I’ve just ordered them and I can’t wait to start reading them next month! I’ve heard so many good things about this series, and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to finally read them!

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

The Poppy War (The Poppy War, #1) by R.F. Kuang

If I don’t read this book by the end of the year then I’ve failed! This has been on my TBR for TWO YEARS and I’m suffering from some serious FOMO! Every time I re-read this books synopsis I get more and more excited and equally frustrated at myself because I know I’m going to adore this series.

The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

The Way of Kings: The Stormlight Archive Volume One: The Stormlight Archive Book One: 1: Amazon.co.uk: Brandon Sanderson: 8601404251665: Books

As many of you know I’m obsessed with Brandon Sanderson and I’m eager to start another series! After looking through all of his series I decided I was craving more high-fantasy rather than sci-fi and settled for the epic that is the Stormlight Archive. I can’t wait to dive back into the wonderful world he creates and to meet a new and exciting cast of characters!

Blood and Ash Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Ever since I heard about this series, I knew had to have it! There is a strong, fierce heroine and her swoon-worthy personal guard, which leads to some pretty smouldering romance. YES PLEASE! As England has once again gone back into a full lockdown, I think it’s only appropriate that I treat myself to a few new books to keep me occupied and to provide me with some much needed escapism.

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

I remember receiving the first chapter of this book and being completely hooked by not only our protagonist Paige but the whole concept of dream-walkers! The world Shannon has created is one I’m eager to explore and I think it’s about time I experience her wonderful writing and imagination. Plus this book has been sitting all alone and forgotten on my shelf for years and I think it deserves some much needed love.

The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini

Eragon - Wikipedia

Just before Christmas I treated myself to this entire series and I plan to make it my mission to read all of them! I have an unhealthy obsession with Dragons, so its crazy that I’ve yet to read this iconic series. And I know this is a controversial opinion but I don’t mind the film adaptation…!

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Stalking Jack the Ripper: Amazon.co.uk: Maniscalco, Kerri, Patterson, James: 9780316273497: Books

This is a new addition to my TBR, and one which has finally captured my attention. Like many people, I weirdly enjoy a good-old murder documentary and I’m curious to see how Maniscalco adapts this classic murder mystery.

The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin

Post-apocalyptic mixed with Fantasy? What more could you want? One of my good friends from Univeristy keeps recommending this book to me, she loved it so much that she based her masters on it so I think it’s about time that I witness what all the fuss is about! I’ve yet to read a bad review about this series, so it’s fair to say I’m going into this series with high expectations!

Series I Want to Start in 2020

I wrote a post like this last year and I found it really helpful when deciding what series to start next as it can sometimes be quite overwhelming when you’re narrowing down your next read. Most of these books I’ve either had in my Amazon basket for a while or are books I keep seeing across the book blogging community. I’m always looking for a new book series so if you’ve got any recommendations then please let me know in the comments!

The Assassins Apprentice by Robin Hobb – One of my resolutions last year was to read more adult fantasy so I thought I should probably start with some of the classics. In a faraway land where members of the royal family are named for the virtues they embody, one young boy will become a walking enigma.

The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski – I wanted to read the first book in the series before watching the TV series and I couldn’t wait!

Fireborne by Rosaria Munda – ‘Game of Thrones meets Red Rising in a debut young adult fantasy that’s full of rivalry, romance… and dragons.’ This book has everything I love, I just hope that it lives up to my now high expectations!

His Fair Assassin Trilogy by Robin Lafevers – This series isn’t particularly high on my TBR list after hearing a lot of mixed reviews but nevertheless I’m really intrigued by the whole concept and premise of this series! The first book in the series follows Ismae who after escaping an arranged marriage is trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. That sounds pretty kickass, doesn’t it?

The Arc of the Scythe by Neal Shusterman – This is another book that I keep seeing around and hearing good things about so I might as well find out for myself what all the hype is about. This was on my TBR pile last year so hopefully I get around to reading it soon.

The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff – This book has been sitting in my Amazon basket for such a long time and I’ve only ever heard good things! I really love all things sci-fi but I haven’t read anything from that genre in a while, so maybe its time to take a break from all my fantasy worlds and dive into something different. I recently read Jay Kristoff’s Nevernight series and fell absolutely in love with it, so it’s fair to say I’m going in with high expectations.

The Poppy War by R.F Kuang – I’ve heard a lot of people call this ‘the best fantasy read of 2018’ so its only right that I see what all the hype is about! I’m already getting serious Ember in the Ashes vibes from the synopsis as it involves a military school and a rich world based on Chinese history. I’m terrible at reading books that focus on different cultures so this year I want to broaden my reading with more world literature.

Series I Want to Start in 2019

There are so many series that I want to start this year and I feel like I’m missing out as I keep hearing good things about all of these books! I’ve been really slacking on my reading and for once I want to reach my Goodreads goal, so hopefully by making a list of series I want to start will give me a clear indication of what to read! Most of these books I’ve either had in my Amazon basket for a while or are books I keep seeing across the book blogging community. I’m always looking for a new book series so if you’ve got any recommendations then please let me know in the comments!

And I Darken by Kristen White – I’ve been meaning to read this series for a while now as I’m a real sucker for a complex and powerful fantasy read! From reading the synopsis I already know that this is going to be an intense and memorable read which is perfect as I’m always looking for some more fantasy worlds to explore!

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black – After putting this on my Christmas Book Haul I’ve heard nothing but praise for this book and I’m beyond excited to finally start reading this!

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff – I have to thank Piera over on Booktube for recommending this series to me! She’s constantly going on about these books and its characters so I finally gave the synopsis a read and now I’m fully invested! I’ve already got the ebook on my phone and read the first couple of pages all of which I’ve really enjoyed so I look forward to reading this very soon!

The Shades of Magic Trilogy by V.E. Schwab – Years ago I tried to read The Archived by V.E Schwab and I just didn’t click with the writing or the story however I really want to give her another go with this series! Not only are these covers stunning but its storyline sounds something that I know I’m going to fall in love with! Plus I keep hearing so many amazing things about these books and I want to get involved.

The world in which the book is set sounds fascinating and I look forward to exploring it more soon.

The books unique format is also something that I really intrigued by!
