Golden Son – Pierce Brown

This series just keeps better and better and I really need to get my hands on the final book soon because once again Brown leaves us on a cliff-hanger bigger than the first book! This book introduces new characters, new plot twists and a new adventure which I really enjoyed and if you haven’t yet read this series, then you need to put it at the top of your TBR pile!

Golden Son, is the second book in the spectacular red rising series and follows the journey of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom from the overlords of a brutal elitist future built on lies. Now fully embedded among the Gold ruling class, Darrow continues his work to bring down Society from within. Dun dun dunn…

There are so many great characters in this book, some from the past and more introduced. The development of Darrow was really enjoyable to read about and like I said in my first review, he is such a unique and brilliant character who is utterly invested in the stakes he’s fighting for. I loved the relationship between Mustang and Darrow too, but I loved his relationship with Sevro even more! Sevro is the best friend, a man like Darrow could have and he is even more crazy and fantastic in this book. God, I just love him! Although, in this book it is easy for friends to become enemies and enemies to become friends…

The plot of this story is just action, unlike the first which was a lot of info dumping and world building, Golden Son is just nonstop the whole time. But we are given more information in this book about all the different colours we haven’t seen yet and it helped me fall in love with this world and story again; it was bloodydam fabulous!

This story is so unpredictable which I loved but I feel like I have to talk about the ending. That was just cruel to both the characters and the reader! I was honestly sat there after I had finished for another twenty minutes just very emotionally unstable! It made me angry, shocked, confused and immensely distraught. I absolutely have no idea how Darrow is supposed to pull through this mess. It’s that bad.

Overall, this book was a dramatic roller coaster which left me in such a state after reading it, so I think it easily deserves 5/5 stars!

Red Rising – Pierce Brown

There are many reason for why I picked up this book but the main is thanks  to BookTube, Tashapolis, in particular who always raves about this book as well as it’s author who may I add is very attractive! *heart eye emoji* I went into this book knowing nothing and if I had to describe it I would say it’s a mix of ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Red Queen’ which are two of my favourite series but at the same time this book had it’s own original and unique aspects!

Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity already reached the surface generations ago. Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power.

Everything about this book as so real, you had real suffering from the characters which made your heart explode with emotion, you had real villains who were easy to hate and had me looking forward to seeing them being ousted and outwitted. Each character was different and I found it easy to fall in love with a lot of them. Darrow, it a brilliant protagonist, an inherently good person but someone who knows he has to dirty his hands in order to fight for a greater cause. I became so attached to his character and found it easy to feel his pain and suffering and I look forward to reading more about his character in the next book! Not only did I love Darrow but I also loved all the other characters like Sevro, Mustang, Pax and the banter between all of them was brilliant and made me laugh; all of them were just perfect!

The storyline, was so badass. There were so many great scenes and behind every page was action and adventure as well as thousands of plot twists I wasn’t expecting! Although the plot is very similar to other novels, Brown puts it up a notch and makes this journey a remarkable, refreshing experience. He made such a worn out scenario engaging, breathtaking, and super exciting, putting elements and characters never seen and experienced before. The only downside of this book was that at the beginning there was a lot of world building and complicated names which made it difficult to follow but it wasn’t long till I caught up with everything that was going on.

Overall, I bloody dam loved this book and easily rate this book 5/5 stars as it was such a dramatic and exciting story full of unexpected plot twists and adventure which I highly recommend! I could go on and on about this book but I had to limit myself and I’m super excited to read the next book!
