How I’ve missed this series! It’s been over a year since I’d read ‘The Heir’ so I had forgotten most of what had happened, the only thing I remembered was that Eadyln was a total and utter bitch, but I’m pleased to say that I loved her development and character so much more in this book. Like all the books in the series, this was such a nice and easy book to read and I will admit that I’m a little upset that it’s over because it was such an enjoyable series and journey. Out of all the books, I think this one has to be my third favourite with ‘The Selection’ taking first place and ‘The One’ taking second, and I just wish it was longer because there was still so much I wanted to explore and see develop.

When Eadlyn became the first princess of Illéa to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realises that she might not be content remaining alone. Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined.

Like I said in ‘The Heir’ Eadlyn was such an unlikable character but her development in this novel was so enjoyable, she learned to put others before herself and importance of doing things for the greater good – she grew up. We also see Eadlyn break into the world of politics and I enjoyed the fact that this book was more about a selection and was able to once again see more of the world Cass has created. Throughout the majority of the novel, we never know who Eadlyn is going to end up with because it could be anyone! The romance in these books is always spot on but I wish we saw more of the different relationships and more dates with the boys!

Overall, I thought it was a great improvement from ‘The Heir’ and I’m really sad to see this series end because they’re all such nice and easy reads which I fly through. If you haven’t read this series yet and are a fan of the bachelor or looking for an easy read then I highly recommend you pick this one up and I’ll link my review to the first book in the series here.

The Heir – Kiera Cass

I have been looking forward to this book for a long time and I am seriously disappointed that only now I am picking it up! It was certainly different from what I expected but at the same time I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The book jumps twenty years ahead from the last selection book and Maxon and America are now parents with four children; Eadlyn, Ahren, Kaden, and Osten. The Heir is told from the perspective of Eadlyn who is the first in line for the throne. Thanks to rebel attacks and various uprisings, Eadlyn must par take in her own selection to help boost morale must to her annoyance. Now she must find the love of her life to help protect her country and her family.

The protagonist Eadlyn, I thought was certainly different and someone whom at first I thought was a bit of a cow but throughout the book she began to open up a bit more and started to become a better person. At times I do admit I wanted to chuck the book in the pool due to my frustration however there were also moments when I high-fived the air! Her character development was remarkable and something I really enjoyed reading.

I also loved the bond between Eadlyn and Ahren as well as their younger siblings. I swear, it’s so adorable when they are all together. However I disliked what happened to him at the end of the book! UGH! He was one of my favorite characters, but then he had to do that! Like…Why?

As for Maxon and America, I loved seeing them as parents. I loved seeing Maxon in daddy mode, but I’m so worried about him. So much pressure in his shoulders, and then what happened at the end was a fatal blow for him! I just want to hug him and tell him everything will be alright! As for America, I thought she was a bit out of character but that could be down to the fact she’s now the queen as she now has to ‘behave’ herself!! I also loved to see Marleen, Lucy, Aspen and May moving on with their lives and starting up families.

The boys! *swoon* To say I had one favourite would be a lie, I had many. At the moment I love Henri, Hale, Kile and Erik, who I know isn’t officially apart of the selection  but I think something could happen here… Seeing the selection from a different perspective was also enjoyable as this time we were able to root for someone we like to win instead of just rooting for the main character.

Now let’s talk about the ending! Again I almost threw the book in the pool thanks to the terrible and frustrating ending. It just ended! So my happened at the build up to the end and now we have to wait till ages to find out what happens as well as answers to many biting questions. I’m having book hangover right now!

Cass’s books have always been an easy read for me and this one was no exception as whizzed though it in a matter of hours. It contained a lot of romance, drama and unexpected events, which I really enjoyed so I am happy to give this book 4/5 stars. Did I like it more than the first three books? No. But it’s definitely in my top three!

We would also like to apologise for the lack of post recently as we have both been really busy and I’ve just come back from holiday (it was lovely, thanks for asking). But this does mean I’ve read thousands of books and more review will be posted soon. It is also the summer holidays here in the UK in a weeks time so we hope to read a lot more! Thank you!

The One – Kiera Cass

I have no words to express how much I loved these books and their storyline! ‘The One’ had everything from fantastic characters to a cliffhanger ending – I don’t want this series to finish, they’re just too good!

The competition is coming to an end and soon Prince Maxon must choose his wife whilst trying to save his county and battle his relationship with his father. With only four girls left each one of them must battle it out to win the hand of the prince (writing that it sounds like its The Hunger Games!!). America is still in the competition but by just a hair and must try her best to sort things out.

Everything happens in this book, I won’t give it away but a lot of the time I never saw it coming. Poor America, a lot of the time she was affected by what happened but it helps makes her a stronger and more loved character. We also see America express herself more (even though she is standing on thin ice) and show her passion for getting rid of the castes. This book is once again darker and has more involvement with the rebels making it more action packed and in my case more addicting! But the series also never got deep enough for me to take the political stuff seriously. Everything was all on the surface, even when rebels were introduced as a real threat. It happened in a rush.

Now let’s talk about the ending. WHAT! I have to admit I didn’t expect that, it all happened all at once and I was on the edge of my seat for the whole chapter! But I am pleased with the outcome and I don’t think that I can wait until May 2015 when the final book is released. I hope I the last book we see more about the rebel attacks and the efforts of making Illea a better place.

Update: I’ve recently discovered that the next installment is called ‘The Heir’ and is set about 20 years after the events of this book. I need more of America and Maxon so fingers crossed that we get to see more of their relationship as they grow old together.

Overall I love this series and especially this book – it’s the best in the series – and I would definitely rate it 5/5 stars. I wish everyone read this series as in my opinion they are fab!! The Elite – Kiera Cass

I love this series!! So much happened in this book which made it so addictive and to top it all off it leaves you on another cliffhanger, making it so much worse.

‘The Elite’ begins with only six girls left in the selection from the original 35 and competition is fierce. But time is running out and Prince Maxon must choose a winner, one that will become his bride. America is seen as the favourite in his eyes however you can’t have a love story that simple, oh no! America must decide once again between Aspen; the boy from home or Maxon; the charming prince.

It was easy for me to jump right back into the world of Illea and the palace. I fell easily right back into the rhythm of the Selection process and life with the royal family. These books are very easy and certainly enjoyable reads – they make me wish that I was a princess! Once again we still have our love triangle between our two handsome young men and personally whilst reading I found it hard to make a decision of whom America should end up with – they both have there strengths and weaknesses. At times I am certain she should be with Maxon and then the next minute I’m positive she should be with Aspen instead! Oh gosh, it’s all so dramatic!

What I love about this book is the fact that the attention is taken away from Aspen and is more focused on Maxon. We get to know more about him, and what his character is really like. I also liked how we got to see America’s character develop, as she encounters more and more events in the palace. But at times America could get a bit frustrating which ruined her character slightly. By the end of the boo,k America was in a bit of an awkward place with both Maxon and Aspen and I feel she has a lot of work to do to ‘fix’ the situation…

The Elite is a step up from the first book as The Selection was quite light and wasn’t as serious as this book. In The Elite we get to see the cracks in the way Illea is run, and how they were more in danger than they expected. With more and more rebel attacks, more drama is created making the book more action packed!

I recommend ‘The Elite’ and ‘The Selection’ series for fans of fairy-tales with romance and action.
