Crooked Kingdom – Leigh Bardugo

Spoiler Alert

It’s taken me far too long to pick up this book, but I’ve finally got round to reading it and I wasn’t disappointed! I still prefer the first book but that doesn’t mean that this book didn’t lack action as it was a heck of a journey and adventure that saw the highs and lows of emotions, wit, and humor between characters and of course the usual swindling and planning which was cleverly revealed and pieced together at the end.

Crooked Kingdom is the sequel (and final book *sobs*) to the brilliant Six of Crows duologue and picks off right where we left off, in the middle of all the action and plotting. Kaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn’t think they’d survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they’re right back to fighting for their lives.  As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz’s cunning and test the team’s fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city’s dark and twisting streets―a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of the Grisha world.

Bardugo’s writing style is utterly perfect as it is so compelling and her ability to juggle so many different perspectives amazes me. The world of Grisha she has created is so detailed and beautiful and I need more of it. And her characters are some of my favourites and it’s one of the elements that make this series so unique and loveable. We even get a bit more romance in these books between Kaz and Inej which I loved, everything he did for her including reuniting her with her family, melted my heart! We also saw Wylan and Jesper get together (yasss) which I didn’t expect and loved as they are both completely different but balance each other out! I need more! I’m still however heartbroken over what happened between Nina and Mattias, they were so close to freedom and a happily ever after but that was all stolen from them! Many of you will probably know that I’m also a huge fan of Leigh’s other series ‘Shadow and Bone’ and I got very excited when we were introduced to some of the characters from that series especially Nickoli who I just adore, it was a nice little surprise!

I don’t think this book could have had a better ending, it left me happy and satisfied yet wanting more, more of these characters and their adventures. This book hit me hard in the heart and I truly don’t want it to end, so Leigh if you’re reading this please continue this series because these characters are so of my all time favorites and I need more adventures with them!

Overall I loved this series and Leigh Bardugo is a bloody genius so I don’t think it’s a surprise if I give it 5/5 stars! If you haven’t ventured into the world of Grisha yet and picked up one of Bardugo’s books then I highly recommend you do as they are all action packed fantasy adventures that I can guarantee you will enjoy!

Popular Books I Haven’t Read Yet

BIHR

I’ve seen a few posts like this recently and it was nice to see that I’m not the only one who hasn’t yet read popular reads. So I thought, I’d share mine to not only to relate to others but hopefully to encourage me to read them soon! The reason I haven’t read them isn’t because I don’t like the book or other books in the series instead it’s probably because I’ve been so busy or the fact that they’re a bit daunting size wise! Anyway, let’s begin with a few of my shameful confessions….

  1. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas – I know, I know I’m terrible! I really don’t have a reason why I haven’t read this yet as I adore Sarah J Maas and her new series and from what I’ve seen from the fan art etc. this book looks bloody amazing! This book is definitely on the top of my TBR and will certainly be read in June when I finish Uni and can have some me time!
  2. Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo – Another book I plan to read when I have more free time because I am in love with its characters and storyline; Leigh Bardugo has a gift!
  3. The Last Star by Rick Yancy – I enjoyed the first book in the series but the second one was so disappointing so I think that’s why I keep putting off reading it because I don’t think it will be able to redeem itself! If you have read it let me know what you thought of it!
  4. Kings Cage by Victoria Aveyard – I kind of forgot about this series and didn’t realise that the third book had been released! Unlike others I’ve really enjoyed this series and can’t wait to finally read this one because we were left on a serious cliffhanger at the end of book two!
  5. The Crown by Keira Cass – This one is down to my bank account and how empty it is! I have enjoyed this series and found them really easy to read but the only reason I haven’t yet bought it is because I’m very poor!
  6. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare – A number of people have told me that I have to read this book but I still haven’t but I think it’s just because of the size of these books and the amount of time I have.

The Jingle Bell Book Tag

Merry Christmas Everyone! We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and hope that your New Year is just as good. We wanted to keep up the Christmas spirit so we thought a perfect way to do this is through a Christmas Tag.

“All I Want For Christmas Is You…” – What book do you want to see under the Christmas Tree?

Amy: I’ve put ‘Crooked Kingdom’ and ‘The Fantastic Beasts Screenplay’ on my Christmas list so fingers crossed Father Christmas brings them on the 24th!

Eleanor: I have also asked for ‘Crooked Kingdom’ and I have also asked for ‘Outlander’ because I love the series so I know I will love the books as well!

“Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time…” – What book that you have read this year have you enjoyed the most?

Amy: I can’t pick just one book and I don’t want to give away all my favourites just yet as once again we’ll be doing our 2016 favourites post (so keep your eyes peeled for that) but I just finished reading ‘The Sun is Also A Star’ which was just incredible and if you’re looking for a book to put on your Christmas list then I recommend that you put that one!

Eleanor: I loved all the classics, ‘A Court of Mist and Fury’ and also ‘Lady Midnight’! (They were this year right?)

Elf – What book unleashes your inner child?

Amy: I’m currently studying ‘Harry Potter’ so in every lecture and seminar it brings back memories of the magic and enjoyment I had when I first read it.

Eleanor:  Oh goodness, I’ll have to say any Enid Blighton books, especially ‘The Famous Five’, absolute classics, they just remind me of the long trips to Norwich we used to make to see family.

“It’s Beginning to look a lot like Christmas…” – Which book has the most festive look to it?

Amy: I wanted a Christmas book to read and I picked up ‘Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares’ and ’12 Days of Dash and Lily’ by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan and I’m in love with their Christmassy covers (and storyline!).

Eleanor: I have no idea why but ‘Paper Towns’ looks really christmassy? the story isn’t particularly festive though…

The Grinch – Your favourite villain…

Amy: I always choose The Darkling for these questions just because I love to hate him!

Eleanor: I’m going to have to say Black Jack Randall from Outlander, he is just awful but I do love to hate him!

The Holiday – Name your favourite TWO couples…

Amy: Apart from myself and all my fictional crushes (Chaol, Damon and Killian), I do love Cress and Thorne from the Luna Chronicles and Andi and Clark from The Unexpected Everything. Both of these couples are completely different but you know what they say, opposites attract.

Eleanor: I’m going to say Feyre and Rhysand from ‘A Court of Mist and Fury’ and also Emma and Joules from ‘Lady Midnight’.

What book would you like to give as a present to your followers?

Amy: I’d love to give them ‘Six of Crows’ by Leigh Bardugo because it’s one of my favourites of this year and I am in love with her characters and writing style! If you’re looking for a badass and action packed read then I highly recommend that you pick ‘Six of Crows’ up!

Eleanor: I’m going to gift you all the ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’, and also the second book ‘A Court of Mist and Fury’, they’re brilliant books!
