My Most Anticipated YA Books of 2021 – Part 2

As if my TBR wasn’t long enough, I thought I’d add to this overflowing chaos and emotionally prepare myself for all the incredible books that are being released later this year! A lot of these were already on my radar but there’s a few that slipped through the cracks and I audibly gasped when I spotted them on Goodreads!

Us readers are in for a treat this year, and this list has definitely given me some much needed encouragement to get through some of books on my TBR before it gets too overwhelming! I’ve definitely missed a few so let me know in the comments what new releases you’re looking forward to reading soon!

The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould (August) – Not only am I’m obsessed with this cover but this synopsis is everything! I don’t usually read thrillers but I’m excited to see what mystery and spine chilling moments are lurking behind these pages.

The Wild Ones by Nafiza Azad (August) – Another cover that I’ve fallen head over heels for! The Wild Ones is a brilliant feminist fantasy about a group of teenage girls endowed with special powers who must band together to save the life of the boy whose magic saved them all.

Fresh by Margot Wood (August) – There’s so much pressure to ‘discover yourself’ when your first start university or college, and Fresh sounds like the perfect and truly realistic coming of age story!

A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee (August) – Another sappic dark academia adventure that sounds super dark and twisty! A Lesson in Vengeance is mysterious thriller about a boarding school haunted by its history of witchcraft and two girls dangerously close to digging up the past.

How We Fall Apart by Katie Zhao (August) – Dark academia + murder mystery + Asian American representation = the perfect thriller!

The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith (August) – My TBR has been lacking in historical fantasy and Sasha Peyton Smith has come to my rescue with an immersive and magical adventure about a young woman who discovers she has magical powers and is thrust into a battle between witches and wizards.

Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson (September) – I really enjoyed Rogerson’s Sorcery of Thorns, but I my only problem was that it was over too quickly, so I look forward to experiencing more of her incredibly imaginative adventures!

Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber (September) – One of my most anticipated reads of 2021 and I was beyond excited when I received the email saying that my request has been approved! I’m beyond excited to dive into back into the wonderful world Stephanie Garber has created and for opportunity to get to know Jacks a little better!

Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer (September) – I wasn’t a huge fan of Kemmerer’s A Curse so Dark and Lonely series, but this book sounds epic and striking similar to our own! Defy the Night focuses on a kingdom divided by corruption, a prince desperately holding it together, and a girl who will risk everything to bring it crashing down.

Daughters of a Dead Empire by Carolyn O’Neil (September) – I love the story of Anastasia and the Romanovs, so when I saw this book on Goodreads, it went to the top of my anticipated TBR. Plus that cover is beautiful and I need it on my bookshelves!

Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney (September) – Last year I fell head over heels for Sally Rooney, and she’s quickly become one of my instant-buy authors. I already know that I’m going to love these characters and I’m ready to be blown away!

White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson (September) – Another instant-buy author, Tiffany D. Jackson knows how to create incredible stories and I’m eager to jump into this chilling YA psychological thriller and modern take on the classic haunted house story.

The Last Legacy by Adrienne Young (September) – I audibly gasped when I saw this book! We’re getting ANOTHER book set in the world of Fable and I’m beyond excited! When a letter from her uncle Henrik arrives on Bryn Roth’s eighteenth birthday, summoning her back to Bastian, Bryn is eager to prove herself and finally take her place in her long-lost family.

Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Saenz (October) – It’s been years since I read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe and I can’t believe that we’re finally getting a sequel! Am I emotionally prepared for this book? No, but I can’t wait to be reunited with these characters!

Little Thieves by Margaret Owen (October) – I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for this book from NetGalley and I’m so glad I did because this book sounds intense! I’ve never ready any books by Margaret Owen but I’ve heard lots of good things about her Merciful Crow series!

The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker (October) – ‘Death is her destiny’, I’m sold! The Keeper of Night is a dark historical fantasy set in 1890s Japan, and follows Ren Scarborough, a half British Reaper, half Japanese Shinigami who has been collecting souls in the London streets for centuries.

Bright Ruined Things by Samatha Cohoe (October) – Isn’t that cover gorgeous! I love the 1920’s and bit of Shakespeare so this book is right up my street!

A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow (October) – If you’ve been following this blog for a while then you know that I love a good-old fairytale and the wonderful Alix E. Harrow has created the perfect feminist reimagining of Sleeping Beauty!

Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper (October) – I’m getting all the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina vibes from this synopsis! Three scorned witches who make a vengeance pact to take down the warlock who broke their hearts at different times…only for two of them fall for each other instead. YES!

Well Matched by Jen DeLuca (October) – Another series I need to start! This series sounds super adorable, and who doesn’t love an accidentally in-love rom-com filled with Renaissance Faire flower crowns, kilts, corsets, and sword fights!

Our Violent Ends by Chole Gong (November) – I still haven’t read the first book in this series but I planning to next week for my read-a-thon! I’m pretty confident that it’s going to be a 5-star read and that I’ll want the next book in my hands ASAP!

All of Us Villains by Amanda Foody (November) – The Hunger Games with a bit of magic? Um yes please! I don’t know about you but I’m a sucker for a villain and I’m excited to get to know these characters! And as if by chance I’ve just logged onto my emails online to find a successful ARC approval email, yay!

Gilded by Marissa Meyer (November) – It was only last week when I found this book on Goodreads, and I’m beyond ready for another Marissa Myer’s adventure! The Lunar Chronicles were one of my favourite series growing up and that woman is a machine when it comes to writing books! Once again Myer’s has reinvented another classic fairytale and returns with a haunting Rumpelstiltskin retelling, and if anyone wants to send me an ARC of this book then please let me know! *wink wink*

Aurora’s End by Amie Kaufman (November) – I don’t think I’m emotionally prepared for this book! I have so many questions that need answering especially after THAT ENDING!

You’ll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus (November) – Karen M. McManus is the queen of YA murder mystery so I already know that this thriller will keep me on the edge of my seat!

Books on My Net Galley Wishlist

Logging on to Net Galley is like stepping into a secret bookstore filled with some of 2021 most anticipated releases but the catch is you can’t read them just yet, you can only wish for them! For those who don’t know Net Galley is a service that enables publishers and authors to upload books to its website prior to publication and allows “professional readers,” such as reviewers, to request copies. It’s a great platform which helps readers like you and me discover new authors, genres and adventures.

Usually with Net Galley, readers submit requests to publishers and wait to see if they’re lucky enough to be sent a ebook for review. There’s also the opportunity to ‘wish’ for selected releases, wishes that can be granted by publishers at any time. In the past I have been fortunate enough to receive a couple of ARC’s off my wish-list, and I hope sharing my list might help manifest some good karma!

I will admit all restraint went out the window when it came to wishing for some of these new releases, I couldn’t resit. I did go a little mad but who can blame me?

Namesake by Adrienne Young

I’ve just finished reading Fable and I’m desperate for the next book especially after THAT ending! I was really craving a pirate fantasy adventure and Fable gave me just that! The characters were lovable yet cutthroat and I’m curious to see what secrets Young has in store for book two.

Red Wolf by Rachel Vincent

You had me ‘for fans of Stephanie Garber’, yes please! I haven’t read a Little Red Riding Hood adaptation for years and this one sounds mysteriously epic. Adele is one of a long line of guardians, women who are able to change into wolves and who are tasked with the job of protecting their village while never letting any of the villagers know of their existence. But when following her calling means abandoning the person she loves, the future she imagined for herself, and her values she must decide how far she is willing to go to keep her neighbors safe.

Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard

Every time I re-read this synopsis the more excited I get, as it combines two of my favourite things, pirates and assassins! No pressure Victoria, but this series better be epic!

Corayne lives at the end of the world. Year after year, she watches her pirate mother sail away to adventures she’ll never share with Corayne. So when a mysterious immortal and deadly assassin appear on Corayne’s doorstep telling her she is the last member of a dying bloodline, and the only one who can save the world, Corayne seizes the chance to have her own adventure.

The Infinity Courts by Akemi Dawn Bowman

The synopsis for this book is EVERYTHING! The concept is incredibly clever and follows a teen girl navigating an afterlife in which she must defeat an AI entity intent on destroying humanity.

Meet Cute Diary by Emery Lee

Another book mentioned in my 2021 anticipated reads post, that sounds super cute and adorable. This swoon-worthy romance, follows Noah Ramirez and his popular blog, the Meet Cute Diary, a collection of trans happily ever afters. But when a troll exposes the blog as fiction, Noah’s world turns upside down and in-lists the help of Drew who is willing to fake-date Noah to save the diary and help prove that romance isn’t dead.

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna

The Gilded Ones (Deathless, #1) by Namina Forna

I’ve yet to read a bad review about this book and I’m honestly so excited to get my hands on it. This female-led fantasy fight against an oppressive system looks beautiful inside and out and is a book I’d sell my soul to read early!

Last Chance Books by Kelsey Rodkey

This is giving me MAJOR You’ve Got Mail vibes and I’m in love! Nothing will stop Madeline Moore from taking over her family’s independent bookstore after college. Nothing, that is—until a chain bookstore called Prologue opens across the street and threatens to shut them down. You can already tell that this is going to feature an enemies to lovers romance and lots of much-needed descriptions of bookstores!

A Vow So Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer

A Vow So Bold and Deadly (Cursebreakers, #3) by Brigid Kemmerer

I know that this series was on my ‘disappointments’ list last year, but I can’t help but be curious to see how Kemmerer continues with this series! From just reading it’s synopsis I’m fairly positive that I’m going to fall back in love with this storyline and its characters!

Better Together by Christine Riccio

Christine is one of my favourite booktubers and it’s been great following along on her writing journey, and I’m eager to read more of her work. Like every author she is so passionate about her work and the publishing process and it’s clear that such love is reciprocated in her writing. Her latest book is being marketed as ‘Freaky Friday meets The Parent Trap’ and I’m already sold.

What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo

This fierce gothic fantasy is completely different to what I usually read but I fancy a change and this book sounds super intriguing. Eleanor Zarrin has been estranged from her wild family for years but when she flees boarding school after a horrifying incident, she goes to the only place she thinks is safe: the home she left behind. But when she gets there, she struggles to fit in with her monstrous relatives, and finds herself desperate trying to hold her family together.

An Emotion of Great Delight by Tahereh Mafi

An Emotion Of Great Delight - Egmont Books

I’ve never read anything by Tahereh Mafi but I’ve heard that her writing is beautifully thoughtful and powerful. An Emotion of Great Delight is a searing look into the world of a single Muslim family in the wake of 9/11. It’s about a child of immigrants forging a blurry identity, falling in love, and finding hope—in the midst of a modern war.

Most Anticipated Adaptions of 2021

2021 is already proving to be an exciting year, as some of our beloved stories and adventures are finally being released on the big (and small) screen! When adapting books to movies there’s always the worry that the writers and directors are going to change elements and cut important and much-loved parts from the script but I’m quietly optimistic for this year’s releases. I don’t want to wish my life away but there’s a few shows this year I’d happily sell my soul to watch early, the excitement is killing me!

Always and Forever, Lara Jean (February 2021)

The final instalment to what I consider to be one of the best YA adaptations EVER! Netflix has managed to capture the heartwarming and beautifully romantic journey that is Lara Jean’s love life and has successfully shared her story with the world. It’s great seeing all my friends fall in love with this story and I’ve even managed to get them to read the books as they’re desperate to find out what happens next. It’s fair to say that I’ve got high expectations for this final film and I just hope they give Lara and Peter the epic conclusion they deserve.

The Nightingale (December 2021)

I’ve yet to read the book to this adaptation but it sounded so good that I couldn’t help but include it on my list. Starring both Dakota and Elle Fanning, this film follows the lives of two sisters living in France who are torn apart at the onset of World War II. I have a huge appreciation and love for films about both World Wars, with favourites such as Atonement, Dunkirk, Fury, and Jojo Rabbit, so I already know that I’m really going to love this one.

The Selection (TBA)

This adaptation has been going around the rumour mill for a while now, but we could be finally seeing this classic YA romance on our screens soon! Netflix has yet to announce anything about the cast or anything else for that matter but all we know is that author Kiera Cass is just as excited as us!

Nine Perfect Strangers (TBA)

I absolutely loved Big Little Lies, so to see more of Liane Moriarty’s books being adapted is great! This book has been sat on my bookshelf for ages so I think it’s about time I finally dive into this thrilling mystery.

One of my favourite books ever is finally getting the BBC adaptation treatment and I’m beyond excited. Starring Lily James, Andrew Scott and Emily Mortimer, I’m quite confident that I’m going to absolutely adore it! The book follows an upper class English family during the war and focuses love, class and relationships, its a classic light-hearted storyline that audiences will love.

Conversations with Friends (TBA)

After the huge success that was Normal People, I’m not surprised to see Rooney’s other book getting the adaptation treatment! And it’s good to hear that the same core team who made Normal People will once again be working together to bring Conversation with Friends to our screens!

Chaos Walking (March 2021)

Chaos Walking: The Complete Trilogy by Patrick Ness

Starring Tom Holland AND Daisy Ridley this film already looks epic! I’ve yet to read this series but the dystopian world Ness has created has certainly made me curious. Plus that trailer looks intense! Todd Hewitt has been raised to believe that a viral germ has killed all women and unleashed Noise, the special ability to read people’s and animals’ minds. Alone, he must face a planet erupting in war—that is, until he meets Viola, the source of the silence.

Shadow and Bone (TBA)

Word’s can’t describe how excited I am for this series to hit our screens, and for these characters and Bardugo’s wonderful Grishaverse to come to life. Transporting this world from page to screen isn’t a small feat but such responsibility has been embraced by executive producers Eric Heisserer and Shawn Levy, with Leigh Bardugo also on board as a producer. I have total and utter faith that this adaptation will stay true to the books and will successfully embody everything we as the fans cherish in this series.

Another Jojo Moyes adaptation? I’ll grab the tissues! Starring Felicity Jones, Shailene Woodley, Callum Turner and Joe Alwyn, the book focuses on a young journalist who becomes obsessed with a series of letters she discovers that recounts an intense star-crossed love affair from the 1960s.

There’s Someone Inside Your House (February 2021)

If you’re a fan of Pretty Little Liars, then the chances are that you’re going to love this adaptation too. The graduating class at Osborne High is being targeted by a masked assailant, intent on exposing the darkest secret of each victim, and only a group of misfit outsiders can stop the killings. I read this book ages ago but I can’t remember a thing! Looks like I’m going to have to have a quick re-read before it’s release!

Death on the Nile (September 2021)

I’m a sucker for a good murder mystery, and there’s no one better than Agatha Christie. I really enjoyed the recent adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express and I’m equally excited to see this book get it’s own A-list adaptation! Starring Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Letitia Wright and other famous faces, this film is guaranteed to be a hit.

Dune (October 2021)

I need something to fill the sci-fi void in my heart and I think this adaptation will do just the trick. The cast looks incredible, and will star Oscar Isaac, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa and more!

I was gutted that this film wasn’t released last year, but this film deserved to be experienced on the big screen rather than at home so I’ll happily wait a little bit longer. Plus that gives me more time to finally read the book!

My Most Anticipated Books of 2021 – Part 1

Before writing this posts I only had a couple of books on my most anticipated list so I jumped onto to Goodreads to see what else was coming out in 2021, and now that list has tripled in size! I don’t need anymore books on my TBR but 2021 sounds like an amazing year for any YA fantasy and contemporary lover, I just couldn’t resist! By the looks of things, we’ve all got great reading tastes and all have very similar lists, so I’m going to try my best to include some lesser known releases as well as some familiar favourites that will be hitting our bookshelves soon!

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas (Feb 2021)

I’d sell my soul if it meant I could read this book now, I’m honestly so excited to dive back into this world and join these characters on another adventure. I need more Azriel content, plus I’m dying to read more about Cassian and Nesta’s blossoming relationship! These characters are my LIFE!

Also I still hate that cover and every time I look at it, it breaks my heart.

Daughter of Sparta by Claire M. Andrews

You know me, I’m a sucker for anything that relates to Greek Mythology, especially a female-led reinvention of a classic myth! This YA adventure follows seventeen year old Daphne who joins forces with the God Apollo to recover the nine mysterious items of Mount Olympus before it’s too late. PLUS it includes an enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies dynamic! Yes please!

Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard (May 2021)

As much as I keep trying to re-read the Red Queen series I think it’s best that I just start a entirely new series by Victoria Aveyard instead. This book combines two of my favourite things, pirates and assassins, and I am beyond excited.

The Aurora Cycle #3 by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (Unknown)

We know nothing about this book but it was on the Goodread’s list of YA Novels for 2021, so it counts right? I’ve only read the first book in this series, and it’s instantly become one of my new favourites! The banter between this band of loveable characters is effortless and genuinely funny which paired with an intense and mysterious storyline makes this an incredible series that every reader needs on their TBR!

Most Anticipated Books and Films of 2020

2019 was the year of endings, with both Game of Thrones and Star Wars: The Last Jedi airing their controversial conclusions, and beloved YA series like Nevernight by Jay Kristoff and The Folk and Air Trilogy by Holly Black wrapping up their intense and lovable adventures. However, 2020 will witness the return of some familiar faces as well as new beginnings for much loved authors, characters and franchises, and it’s fair to say that I am excited. Here’s my shortlist for this years most anticipated books and films, and I’d love to know what you’re most looking forward to in the comments below!

Books

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas – The Queen is back! Although I still haven’t finished the Throne of Glass series I am ready to step into another one of her fantastical worlds and adventures. There’s no doubt that this series will meet all my high expectations and just from reading the synopsis I can already tell that its going to be one of my favourite reads of 2020! Also can we please discuss that cover, because its stunning and beautifully detailed!

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins – It’s about time the Hunger Games fandom awoke from their slumber, and rose in a united anticipation for the opportunity to revisit the fearful world and society of Panem. Set sixty-four years before the original trilogy, the novel will open with the reaping of the 10th Hunger Games. Update: It’s just been revealed that this is going to be a President Snow origin story and now I’m not as excited.

Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare – I haven’t read anything from Cassandra Clare in years but she never fails to transport us back to her wonderful world filled with Shadowhunters, Vampires, Werewolves and Fairies. By the looks of things I’m going to have to finally read the Infernal Devices series as this book sounds like the perfect bridge between her other series and character relationships!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E Schwab – Last year I read Schwab’s Darker Shade of Magic series and she soon became one of my new favourite authors, so when I heard she was releasing another book I had to check it out. As expected the novels premise is hauntingly unique and magically wonderful and I’m already sold.

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff – Another author I discovered last year, and instantly fell in love with. Like Schwab, Kristoff’s writing is something I admire and aspire to replicate, it’s always filled with unique and descriptive metaphors that come to life on the page. After the whirlwind that was Twilight, I’m now more than ever ready for another vampire adventure.

Films

Black Widow (Disney, 1st May 2020) – After the events of Avengers: Endgame, I think its only right that we finally get an origin story for Black Widow! Am I emotionally prepared? No, but there’s no way I’m missing this!

Dune (Warner Bros, 18th December 2020) – I need something to fill the sci-fi void in my heart and I think this adaptation will do just the trick. The cast looks incredible, and will star Oscar Isaac, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa and more! All the concept art is already getting me overly excited, and is continuing to raise my expectations.

Eternals (Disney, 6th November 2020) – This is another film with an incredible cast and vast array of characters, I’m looking forward to discovering more about them and their roles within the much-loved comics.

The Last Thing He Wanted (Netflix, TBD) – Joan Didion is one of my favourite authors so when I heard that one of her books was being adapted I got quite excited. I’ve yet to read The Last Thing He Wanted as its very different to what she usually writes, but nevertheless its still made its way on to my ever-growing TBR list. Starring Ben Affleck and Anne Hathaway, the film follows a veteran D.C. journalist who loses the thread of her own story when a guilt-propelled errand for her father who is dying, thrusts her from byline to unwitting subject in the very story she’s trying to break.

No Time To Die (8th April 2020) – Daniel Craig is one of my favourite Bond’s so I’m sad to see him go, but just from the trailer its clear that he’s going in style.

Before writing this posts I only had a couple of books on my most anticipated list so I jumped onto to Goodreads to see what else was coming out in 2019 and now that list has tripled in size! 2019 sounds like an amazing year for any YA fantasy and contemporary lover so I for one am buzzing with excitement! King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo – My most anticipated book of 2019, because not only am I in love with Leigh Bardugo and the wonderful world she has created but I’m also in love with the young and mysterious Nikolai Lantsov who is one of my bookish husbands! loved him in the Shadow and Bone trilogy so the fact that he’s got an entire book dedicated to him is a dream come true!

Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan – What instantly drew me to this book was the cover and then after the synopsis, it made its way on to my evergrowing TBR list!

In a centuries-long war where beauty and brutality meet, three paths entwine in a shadowy world of spilled blood and mysterious saints, where a forbidden romance threatens to tip the scales between dark and light!

Again, but Better by Christine Riccio – I’ve been watching Christine on Booktube for a couple of years now I always get excited when a Booktuber I follow fulfills their dream of writing a book! I love the concept of this story and I look forward to seeing if it lives up to expectations!

Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte – Another cover and synopsis that has me eagerly awaiting this books release date! After reading the reviews on Goodreads I’m positive that I’m going to love this book and that it’s going to be one heck of an adventure.

A divided nation. Four Queens. A ruthless pickpocket. A noble messenger. And the murders that unite them.

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon – I’ve seen this book everywhere and 2019 is seriously killing it at the cover game as all the books I’ve mentioned so far are stunning, but this one is easily my favourite and I need it on my shelves asap! By the sounds of it, this is going to be an epic fantasy that I’m guaranteed to love!

The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons – I was instantly drawn to this book after it was said to have the world building of Brandon Sanderson, an author I discovered this year and who I’m absolutely in love with, so no pressure Jenn! After reading the synopsis and a few Goodreads reviews its clear that this book has a lot of action and interesting characters so now I’m intrigued to see if it lives up to the hype.

Most Anticipated Reads Of 2017

Yay, it’s 2017, let’s hope this year is better than last year because let’s admit it last year was pretty disastrous and I think a lot of us were glad to leave it behind. Anyway, this year there are so many new book releases which we are both super excited about including sequels and a lot of first books in a series! Carve The Mark by Veronica Roth – I loved Veronica Roth’s ‘Divergent’ series and it’s about time she released a new book!
Lord Of Shadows by Cassandra Clare – The first book ‘Lady Midnight’ was just incredible and I’ve got no doubt that this one will be equally as amazing. ‘Lady Midnight’ left us on a bit of a cliff-hanger, so I look forward to seeing what happens in the next book!
Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han – I didn’t know there was going to be another release in this series but now I’m super excited but sadly this will be the final book in the series. It will be interesting to see what happens in this book because I’ve got no idea as what to expect.
By Your Side by Kasie West – The synopsis of this book sounds like the perfect contemporary for me as not only does the storyline sound cute and heartwarming but it’s also set in a library! I love Kasie West’s books and I’m looking forward to reading this one too!
Because You Love to Hate Me: 13 Tales of Villainy – This unique YA anthology presents classic and original fairy tales from the villain’s point of view. But what I love the most about this book is that it is a joint collaboration with thirteen of the most influential BookTubers on YouTube with thirteen acclaimed and bestselling authors!
