End Of Days – Susan Ee

Spoilers Ahead!! (Apologies as I tried to write a spoiler free review but It was too hard!!)

Is this the end? It can’t be the end, can it? Oh this series is wonderful and is certainly gained a place as one of my top 5 favourite series. Once again Susan Ee has created a novel which not only makes you laugh and cry but also keeps you on the edge of your seat for the whole thing!!

‘End Of Days’ takes place again after the events in ‘World After’ as Raffe and Penryn are on the run. They’re both desperate to find a doctor who can reverse the twisted changes inflicted by the angels on Raffe and Penryn’s sister. As they set off in search of answers, a startling revelation about Raffe’s past unleashes dark forces that threaten them all. When the angels release an apocalyptic nightmare onto humans, both sides are set on a path toward war. As unlikely alliances form and strategies shift, who will emerge victorious?

The storyline was action packed and we were able to discover new parts of the world Susan created which I really enjoyed, in particular when Raffe and Penryn go down to the pit…! I couldn’t put it down as it was addictive and such an easy read however this wasn’t good for me as I was meant to be revising for my English Exam!! But doesn’t reading count as revision??!!

Raffe and Penryn!! Raffryn!!! Finally, they admit to each other that they love each other and the development of their relationship was perfect!!! It was really well paced and I enjoyed their cheeky kiss moments however sometimes I felt myself shouting at the book yelling “Just admit it already!! Get married and have beautiful children!!!” The ending was again perfect as when Raffe said he loved her and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her was romantic and also hilarious with his sarcastic and witty comments; classic Raffe!

Penryn the Hero! Again she was such as badass in this book and was able to become a fearless leader which I look for in a great female protagonist! God, I love her so much!!!

We also introduced to a load of new characters such as Raffe’s Watchers and they were very similar to Raffe, personality wise with their one liners and comments made the conversation between them all very enjoyable! As well as this they were a perfect addition to the action!

As well as this, some familiar faces were also included which I really enjoyed as they weren’t just forgotten. Dee and Dum, I now love even more and I really enjoyed all the scenes they were in; they made the apocalypse look like a fun place to be!!

On the downside there was less of Paige and Penryn’s mother in this book but that didn’t bother me too much as it meant I was able to read more about new characters as well as Raffe and Penryn together.

I certainly wasn’t expecting this but there were a few major character deaths which some of them I was really upset about and it certainly shocked me when I read about it but I can’t totally see why it had to be done! However one death in particular I thought was very weak and I think they deserved a more memorable and heroic death!!

The ending was brilliant! It was powerful and packed full of action which I really enjoyed reading about! The build up was well paced and certainly created a lot of suspense!

Overall, I give this book and the entier series 5/5 stars as it is just pure perfection!! It has a gripping storyline, powerful and funny characters and a hint of creepiness; What more could you want??

If you haven’t yet read these books I highly recommend that you do as they are brilliant and pure perfection!!! Even if your not a fan of these types of books, I guarantee you’ll soon fall in love with them as much as I have!!

World After – Susan Ee

Wow! I am really beginning to love this series as not only do I love the characters but the storyline is intense and brilliant (and even pretty gory at some stages)! I love this book slightly more than ‘Angelfall’ as we start to get an understanding of where the book is going.

‘World After’ is the second book in the ‘Penryn and the End of Days Series’ and once again follows Penryn as she faces the struggles of survival whilst also trying to protect her and her family which is slowly breaking away. By doing this she once again begins to uncover the secrets of the angels and of the ‘locus’! (Eww They freaked me out!)

I absolutely love Susan’s writing style as it’s just so easy to read and I whizzed through it in no time! The storyline again was fab and had everything a dystopian novel needed; action, drama and a little bit of romance! Now that we are finally getting more answers and are starting to understand the world, this story has become much more engaging. I’m excited for this to be investigated more in ‘End of Days’.

I really loved these flashbacks from the sword and that it had a personality of its own. They were atmospheric and lent excellent insight to Raffe’s characters and the struggles he faced before he and Penryn met. It also allowed us to learn more about their travels and see his perspective on events!

Penryn is my favourite in World After as she is not only funny but she’s got her priorities straight and certainly, I won’t give up without a fight! Her mother and Paige were once again creepy as hell!! but I think that worked really well as it adds something unique and different to the book. There’s less of Raffe in this book which I was slightly disappointed with but the scenes with him in are dramatic and funny. He’s still the same old Raffe! I believe there’s more emotion locked up in his angel heart than we’re ready to see yet, which is why we’ve only been given glimpses so far. But even though he was missing, I didn’t really notice as there was so much more going on! Their relationship again is brilliant, their conversations are sarky and humorous. There were some great scenes when they were together, my favourite being the conversation about ‘Pooky Bear’!

Overall, I give this books 5/5 stars as once again this book is packed with action as well as humour! It is a brilliant read which I highly recommend and I can’t wait to read ‘End Of Days’! If you do want to start this series check out my spoiler free review on ‘Angelfall’!!

Angelfall – Susan Ee

I wouldn’t have picked this book up if it wasn’t once again for ‘Booktube’ and I am really pleased that I did as I enjoyed this book very much but maybe not as much as others. I am a massive fan of dystopian and i thought this book worked really well and had everything a dystopian novel needed.

The story follows Petryn, a 17 year old trying to help her frayed family survive in a post-apocalyptic California. As you can probably tell from the title, Angelfall, this book is about angels. It’s a post-apocalyptic novel where angels have invaded Earth. When her younger sister is taken by angels, Petryn must team up with an unlikely companion Raffe, to not only rescue her sister but uncover the secrets the angels hide!

The world created, I thought worked well and was very realistic which i enjoyed.
There was so much action and creepiness as well as humour which made this book a perfect read. This also made this book such an easy read, and I managed to fly through it in two nights!!

Petryn the protagonist, in my eyes was a perfect strong female protagonist; she was determined, stubborn and a total badass which was fab!! I enjoyed getting to know her immensely. This book is a brilliant journey of great character and spirit. Raffe, her companion I loved as well. He was brilliant and someone who I really grew to like! He has a long and mysterious past, which I am yearning to find out more about, but he is also compassionate, loyal, caring, trustworthy, and sweet beyond measure.

Another thing I really enjoyed was the relationship and dialogue between Raffe and Petryn as it was sarcastic and witty which made it funny to read! I can’t wait to see more of their relationship in the next book! (Totally ship them both!!!)

Character the only character I didn’t like was Petryn’s mother as she was creepy as hell?!! Personally I don’t think she was needed but I can totally see why Susan would want to include her as she really intrigued me!

One of my only criticism was the ending! I had no idea what was going on and I got so confused! We still didn’t know anything about why the angels are on Earth? Or anything behind their plans which was a bit frustrating. Again, I don’t want to spoil it but what happened to Petryn’s sister I thought was very weird and scary; I didn’t like it!! Whatever happened to happy endings?

Overall I am happy to award this book with 4/5 stars as I thought the plot was brilliant and really creative! The characters were fab and I could easily connect with them! It was such an easy read so if you are in a reading slump, I certainly recommend it!!

I would also like to thank Net Gallery for sending me this book and I can’t wait to read the next one!!
