Dumplin’ Film Review – 12 Days of Blogmas

DUMP

As soon as I saw the trailer for this film I knew it was going to be a goodn’ so I picked up the book with the aim of finishing it before I watched the film, but I couldn’t wait and watched it the morning it came out! I’m so glad that I did though as I watched it a further two times and love every second it. Netflix is seriously killing it at some of its YA adaptations and Dumplin’ is up there with To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and is everything Sierra Burgess Is A Loser should have been.

Like the book, the film is a feel-good watch that had me laughing, crying and smiling throughout. Everything about it is just so damn lovely and I can’t stop raving about it. The thing I loved most about this film was its emotionally impactful message of self- acceptance and the loveable coming of age story that is wrapped in Dolly Parton music, an album that has been on repeat ever since. It is honestly one of those films that will warm your heart with its storyline and characters, all of which are so engaging to the point where I’d want to be best friends with Willowdean!

I’m a hopeful romantic, so I’m a bit gutted that they didn’t show more Willowdean and Bo’s relationship, I’m fully invested in both of them now and I just want more! But we did get a lot of time exploring different and new relationships, especially the growing relationship between Willowdean and her mother, played by the wonderful Jennifer Anniston who absolutely smashed her role!

I don’t want to spoil anything but some of my favorite scenes were preparation for the pagent with the Drag Queens, (I know fans of Ru Pauls Drag Race will certainly spot a few favorites) and also the entire pagent which had me grinning from ear to ear with just how wonderful it was!

If you haven’t seen this film yet then I highly recommend that you go out and get yourself a big bag of popcorn and scheduled a night in on the sofa. I loved it and I really hope you do too, and if you have already seen it then let me know what you thought of it in the comments!
