End Of Days – Susan Ee

Spoilers Ahead!! (Apologies as I tried to write a spoiler free review but It was too hard!!)

Is this the end? It can’t be the end, can it? Oh this series is wonderful and is certainly gained a place as one of my top 5 favourite series. Once again Susan Ee has created a novel which not only makes you laugh and cry but also keeps you on the edge of your seat for the whole thing!!

‘End Of Days’ takes place again after the events in ‘World After’ as Raffe and Penryn are on the run. They’re both desperate to find a doctor who can reverse the twisted changes inflicted by the angels on Raffe and Penryn’s sister. As they set off in search of answers, a startling revelation about Raffe’s past unleashes dark forces that threaten them all. When the angels release an apocalyptic nightmare onto humans, both sides are set on a path toward war. As unlikely alliances form and strategies shift, who will emerge victorious?

The storyline was action packed and we were able to discover new parts of the world Susan created which I really enjoyed, in particular when Raffe and Penryn go down to the pit…! I couldn’t put it down as it was addictive and such an easy read however this wasn’t good for me as I was meant to be revising for my English Exam!! But doesn’t reading count as revision??!!

Raffe and Penryn!! Raffryn!!! Finally, they admit to each other that they love each other and the development of their relationship was perfect!!! It was really well paced and I enjoyed their cheeky kiss moments however sometimes I felt myself shouting at the book yelling “Just admit it already!! Get married and have beautiful children!!!” The ending was again perfect as when Raffe said he loved her and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her was romantic and also hilarious with his sarcastic and witty comments; classic Raffe!

Penryn the Hero! Again she was such as badass in this book and was able to become a fearless leader which I look for in a great female protagonist! God, I love her so much!!!

We also introduced to a load of new characters such as Raffe’s Watchers and they were very similar to Raffe, personality wise with their one liners and comments made the conversation between them all very enjoyable! As well as this they were a perfect addition to the action!

As well as this, some familiar faces were also included which I really enjoyed as they weren’t just forgotten. Dee and Dum, I now love even more and I really enjoyed all the scenes they were in; they made the apocalypse look like a fun place to be!!

On the downside there was less of Paige and Penryn’s mother in this book but that didn’t bother me too much as it meant I was able to read more about new characters as well as Raffe and Penryn together.

I certainly wasn’t expecting this but there were a few major character deaths which some of them I was really upset about and it certainly shocked me when I read about it but I can’t totally see why it had to be done! However one death in particular I thought was very weak and I think they deserved a more memorable and heroic death!!

The ending was brilliant! It was powerful and packed full of action which I really enjoyed reading about! The build up was well paced and certainly created a lot of suspense!

Overall, I give this book and the entier series 5/5 stars as it is just pure perfection!! It has a gripping storyline, powerful and funny characters and a hint of creepiness; What more could you want??

If you haven’t yet read these books I highly recommend that you do as they are brilliant and pure perfection!!! Even if your not a fan of these types of books, I guarantee you’ll soon fall in love with them as much as I have!!
