We Were Liars – E.Lockhart

We Were Liars, is like marmite, you either love it or you hate it but in my case i really liked it! Although the writing style was very different than any other books i’ve read before, i really enjoyed it and would certainly read another. I picked this book up because everyone on ‘Booktube’ was raving about it and i wanted to know what all the fuss was about! I now understand why everyone was recomending it; including myself now!

One thing I loved about this book is the metaphors used; they were amazing! A few left me sitting in shock however I learned to love them as they really showed the true pain Candance was going through which in my opinion helped the reader really connect with her.

The writing style was intresting too. The sentences told you the charaters thoughts and whats going on, but didn’t give you much more than that, which added to the mystery of it all.

The story itself was also in my eyes very clever, it took you on a mysterious journey which left you experiencing many ‘feels’ by the end of the book. I’m not a “Sherlock Homes” and didn’t figure the mystery out but looking back at all the clues, it all adds up. The journey was certainly worth it.

I don’t want to give too much away as I feel it’s better going into this book knowing nothing; allowing you to experience it at it’s best!

I would certianly recommed this book to older readers due to the choice of language and even though it may only be a small book i found it a very hard read as you had to pay attention to every single detail.
Overall I give this book 4/5, certainly a great summer read!
